Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Velimixin is a supramolecular cationic (SMC) formulation of polymyxin B developed by Venus Remedies using its proprietary RENAL GUARD™ technology. This formulation is designed to mitigate the nephrotoxicity typically associated with polymyxin B while maintaining its potent bactericidal activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria. Velimixin works by targeting and disrupting the outer cell membrane of Gram-negative pathogens through binding to lipopolysaccharides (LPS). It is approved and marketed in India for the treatment of bloodstream infections (bacteremia) and invasive infections caused by susceptible strains of *Acinetobacter* spp., *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Escherichia coli*, and *Klebsiella* spp.
