Overview
Velsecorat is a synthetic, non-steroidal, selective glucocorticoid receptor modulator (SGRM) developed primarily for inhalation. It was designed as an "antedrug" (soft drug), meaning it is rapidly inactivated after exerting its local effect in the lungs to minimize systemic side effects. Velsecorat acts by modulating the glucocorticoid receptor to reduce inflammation and was investigated for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug reached phase II clinical trials for asthma and phase I for COPD but development has since been discontinued. Velsecorat was originally developed by AstraZeneca[1][2][3][4][5][7].
