Overview

Venomil is a brand name for a line of venom immunotherapy products used to desensitize patients with severe, IgE-mediated allergic reactions to insect stings. [8, 11] These biologic products contain various sterile, freeze-dried insect venom proteins as active ingredients, such as those from honey bees, wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets. [14] Administered via a series of subcutaneous injections with gradually increasing doses, Venomil aims to modulate the patient's immune response, reducing the severity of allergic symptoms upon subsequent stings. [1, 14] The treatment is indicated for patients with a confirmed history of systemic allergic reactions and positive skin tests to specific insect venoms. [14] The product line is also used for diagnostic skin testing to identify the specific venom causing the allergy. [10, 14] The products were originally manufactured by Baxalta, which was later acquired, and are now associated with Jubilant HollisterStier. [6, 14, 15]
