Overview

VentriGel is an injectable hydrogel derived from decellularized porcine cardiac extracellular matrix, designed to repair damaged heart tissue following myocardial infarction (heart attack). Once injected into the damaged region of the heart via catheter, it forms a scaffold that provides a reparative environment for healthy cells to migrate and regenerate cardiac muscle, reduce scar tissue, and improve heart function. The hydrogel is minimally invasive and does not require surgery. Developed by Ventrix, which licensed the technology from UC San Diego, VentriGel has completed Phase 1 clinical trials demonstrating safety and feasibility in patients with mild to moderate heart failure post-myocardial infarction. A Phase 2 trial is planned to further evaluate efficacy in improving cardiac function and quality of life for patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy or post-infarct heart failure[1][3][4][6].
