VER-155008 + doxorubicin is an experimental combination of two small molecule drugs used in preclinical research, primarily in oncology. VER-155008 is a novel adenosine-derived inhibitor of Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70), a molecular chaperone involved in protein folding and cellular stress responses. By inhibiting HSP70, VER-155008 disrupts cancer cell survival mechanisms, induces apoptosis, and impairs cell proliferation[2][3][6]. Doxorubicin is a well-established anthracycline chemotherapeutic agent that intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis. The combination has been studied for potential synergistic effects against cancer cells—particularly osteosarcoma—by attempting to sensitize tumor cells to chemotherapy through HSP70 inhibition[1]. However, studies have shown that pretreatment with VER-155008 does not significantly enhance the cytotoxicity or apoptotic effect of doxorubicin in certain models such as canine osteosarcoma cells[1]. Both agents are administered for their antineoplastic properties but act via distinct mechanisms.
