Overview
Veral Retard is an oral, controlled-release formulation of diclofenac sodium, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with potent analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes, Prostaglandin G/H synthase 1 (COX-1) and Prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 (COX-2), thereby blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain, fever, and inflammation. Developed by Herbacos Recordati (formerly Herbacos-Bofarma), Veral Retard is approved for the treatment of pain and swelling associated with inflammatory and degenerative rheumatic diseases, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
