Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vericiguat (BAY 1021189) is an oral, once-daily soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator developed by Bayer and MSD. It works by directly binding to and stimulating sGC, an enzyme in the nitric oxide (NO) signaling pathway that catalyzes the synthesis of intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Increased cGMP levels lead to smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation, which helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalization in patients with chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction. Formulation 1 refers to a specific oral suspension formulation of vericiguat that was evaluated in a Phase 1 taste panel study to assess its palatability, with the goal of developing a liquid treatment option for pediatric patients or adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets.
