verinurad + febuxostat

Verinurad + febuxostat is an investigational oral combination therapy for the treatment of gout and asymptomatic hyperuricemia. Verinurad (RDEA3170) is a potent, selective inhibitor of the urate transporter 1 (URAT1), which reduces serum uric acid by inhibiting its reabsorption in the kidneys. Febuxostat is a non-purine xanthine oxidase inhibitor that decreases serum uric acid by blocking its synthesis. The combination has demonstrated greater reductions in serum urate levels than either agent alone, with both drugs acting through complementary mechanisms—verinurad increasing renal excretion and febuxostat reducing production of uric acid. This combination is being developed primarily for patients with gout or hyperuricemia who require intensive lowering of serum urate levels[2][3][1]. AstraZeneca is leading clinical development.
