Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vero-Rabies is an inactivated rabies vaccine developed by StarBio. The vaccine is produced by cultivating the rabies virus in Vero cells, a continuous lineage of mammalian epithelial cells, followed by chemical inactivation. This process ensures that the virus can no longer replicate while maintaining its immunogenic properties. Upon administration, the vaccine stimulates the host's immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus glycoprotein. It is indicated for both pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in individuals at high risk of contact with the virus and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) following a potential rabies exposure. The use of Vero cell technology allows for large-scale production and high purity compared to older nerve-tissue-derived vaccines.
