Overview

VERU-722 (formerly MSS-722) is an oral selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) developed for the treatment of male infertility, specifically targeting men with secondary hypogonadism. By antagonizing estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, the drug aims to increase the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which in turn stimulates natural testosterone production and spermatogenesis in the testes. The asset was acquired by Veru Inc. (formerly The Female Health Company) through its merger with Aspen Park Pharmaceuticals in 2016. While initially a key part of the company's urology pipeline and planned for Phase 2 clinical development, the program has since been deprioritized as Veru shifted its strategic focus toward oncology and other therapeutic areas.
