Vetprofen is a veterinary non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing the active ingredient carprofen. It is a small molecule belonging to the propionic acid class, specifically FDA-approved for use in dogs. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. Vetprofen is indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain following soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. It is marketed by Vetoquinol USA and is available in oral caplet and flavored tablet forms in strengths of 25 mg, 75 mg, and 100 mg.
