Overview

**Vetropolycin** is an FDA-approved veterinary ophthalmic antibiotic ointment manufactured by Dechra Veterinary Products for topical ocular treatment of superficial bacterial infections of the eyelid and conjunctiva in dogs and cats, including susceptible cases of acute or chronic conjunctivitis. It is a fixed-dose combination of three small-molecule antimicrobials: bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate, and polymyxin B sulfate, formulated in an ointment base of white petrolatum and mineral oil. The product provides broad antibacterial coverage through complementary mechanisms: bacitracin disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding the 30S ribosomal subunit, and polymyxin B disrupts the outer membrane of susceptible gram-negative bacteria by interacting with bacterial membrane phospholipids and lipopolysaccharide.
