Vetropolycin HC

Vetropolycin HC is a veterinary ophthalmic ointment developed by Dechra Veterinary Products for topical ocular treatment of bacterial infections and associated inflammation in dogs and cats. It is a fixed-dose combination of three **small molecule** antibiotics\u2014bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate, and polymyxin B sulfate\u2014plus the corticosteroid hydrocortisone acetate. Bacitracin primarily disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis in susceptible gram-positive organisms, neomycin is an aminoglycoside that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis through ribosomal binding, and polymyxin B disrupts the outer membrane of susceptible gram-negative bacteria; hydrocortisone acetate provides local anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid activity.
