Overview

VG101 is a topical intravaginal drug candidate developed for the treatment of vulvovaginal atrophy and dryness in menopausal women. It is a novel, selective estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) agonist derived from substances of three botanical species. Unlike traditional estrogen therapies that activate both ERα and ERβ, VG101 selectively activates only the estrogen receptor beta, which is not implicated in breast or uterine tumor formation. Preclinical studies demonstrated that VG101 restores normal vaginal tissue without causing uterine growth or abnormal cell proliferation, suggesting a potentially improved safety profile over conventional estrogens. The drug was designed to address symptoms such as vaginal dryness, irritation, itching, discharge, dyspareunia (painful intercourse), dysuria (painful urination), urinary incontinence frequency reduction, and overall improvement in sexual function and quality of life for postmenopausal women[1][4][5].
