Overview

VG160 is an investigational oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 1 (oHSV-1) developed by Virogin Biotech. It is engineered to selectively replicate in and lyse tumor cells while expressing immunomodulatory transgenes, specifically Interleukin-12 (IL-12) and a fusion of Interleukin-15 (IL-15) with its receptor alpha subunit (IL-15Rα). These cytokines are intended to stimulate the innate and adaptive immune systems within the tumor microenvironment, promoting the activation of natural killer (NK) cells and T cells. VG160 served as a predecessor to the clinical candidate VG161, which includes an additional PD-L1 blocking peptide to further enhance antitumor activity and overcome immune suppression.
