Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VGLCR is an experimental oral nutraceutical combination formulation designed to counteract the early degenerative changes associated with glaucoma. The composition includes vitamin D3, gastrodin (the active ingredient of *Gastrodia elata*), lycopene, vitamin C, and blackcurrant extract, formulated using the patented FM-LipoMatrix® technology to enhance delivery. VGLCR acts as a neuroprotective agent for retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) by counteracting reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, inhibiting apoptotic cycles (via p53, Bax, and Annexin V modulation), and regulating key intracellular signaling pathways such as p38 MAPK, JNK, and ERK. Research conducted at the University of Eastern Piedmont has demonstrated its potential to prevent and restore retinal damage in both in vitro mouse RGC models and ex vivo bovine eyecup preparations.
