VGN-Ex05e is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy consisting of nerve cells derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). It is specifically designed for the treatment of pediatric and adolescent patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who exhibit severe, treatment-resistant self-injurious and aggressive behaviors. The therapy is administered via a one-time intracerebral injection into the nucleus accumbens, a brain region involved in reward processing and behavioral regulation. The primary objective of VGN-Ex05e is to modulate dysfunctional neural circuits to reduce maladaptive behaviors and improve the quality of life for patients who have failed standard pharmacological and behavioral interventions. It is currently being developed by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
