VGX-3200 is an injectable DNA plasmid-based therapeutic designed to express human Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH) protein in vivo. Developed by VGX Pharmaceuticals (which later merged with Inovio Pharmaceuticals), the therapy utilizes a DNA delivery platform to allow for the natural production and maintenance of GHRH under endogenous physiologic conditions. Its primary clinical focus has been the treatment of cancer cachexia and anemia. By activating the growth hormone-releasing hormone pathway, VGX-3200 aims to stimulate the production of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), thereby potentially reversing muscle wasting and improving erythropoiesis in patients with chronic diseases.
