Overview

VH244 is a first-in-class Therapeutic Interfering Particle (TIP) being developed by Virion Biotherapeutics for the treatment of respiratory viral infections, including influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It consists of a truncated 395-nucleotide RNA derived from segment 1 of the influenza A virus, encapsulated within a viral particle derived from the influenza A PR8 (H1N1) strain. VH244 operates through a dual mechanism: it interferes with the viral replication machinery by competing for genomic resources and simultaneously stimulates the host's innate immune response. Preclinical data in murine and ferret models suggest a broad-spectrum antiviral effect, a high barrier to resistance, and a long therapeutic window without immunogenicity upon repeat dosing.
