Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The vi polysaccharide typhoid vaccine is a sterile solution vaccine made from the purified Vi capsular polysaccharide extracted from the surface of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (S typhi Ty2 strain). It stimulates the production of anti-Vi capsular antibodies, providing protection against typhoid fever caused by S typhi, but not against paratyphoid or non-typhoidal salmonella. Its protective efficacy is approximately 74% in the first two years post-vaccination. It is administered intramuscularly as a single dose and is indicated for travelers to endemic areas, close contacts of typhoid carriers, and certain laboratory workers. It is not used in children under two years or for routine immunization in the general population.[1][2][3][4][7]
