Overview
Viable bifidobacterium is a probiotic pharmaceutical preparation containing live bacteria of the *Bifidobacterium* genus, most commonly *Bifidobacterium infantis*. It is widely used to regulate intestinal flora and treat conditions associated with dysbiosis, such as diarrhea and constipation. In clinical research, particularly in China, it is being investigated for its potential to improve opioid tolerance in cancer pain patients. The proposed mechanism involves modulating the gut-brain axis, reducing systemic inflammation, and maintaining the integrity of the intestinal barrier, thereby potentially mitigating the development of morphine tolerance and other opioid-induced side effects.
