Overview
ViaDerm-hGH is a transdermal delivery system for recombinant human growth hormone (somatropin). It utilizes the ViaDerm micro-perforation technology, which uses a handheld electronic device to create microscopic channels in the stratum corneum, facilitating the delivery of large protein biologics through the skin. Developed through a collaboration between TransPharma Medical and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, the system was designed as a non-invasive alternative to daily subcutaneous injections for patients with Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD). The active ingredient, somatropin, is a recombinant protein that acts as an agonist at the growth hormone receptor, stimulating linear growth and regulating various metabolic processes. Clinical development reached Phase 2 in adult and pediatric populations before Teva discontinued the program in 2010.
