Overview

ViaDerm hPTH (1-34) is a transdermal drug-device combination product developed for the treatment of osteoporosis. It utilizes TransPharma Medical's proprietary ViaDerm (later rebranded as ViaDor) technology, which employs a handheld electronic control unit to apply radio frequency (RF) current to the skin. This process creates microscopic channels (micro-channels) through the outer layer of the skin, allowing for the systemic delivery of hPTH (1-34), a synthetic 34-amino acid fragment of human parathyroid hormone. The active ingredient, also known as teriparatide, acts as an agonist at the parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTH1R) to stimulate bone formation. The product was out-licensed to Eli Lilly for clinical development but was ultimately discontinued after Phase 2 trials.
