Overview
ViAqua RNAi feed supplement is an orally administered, RNA-based treatment developed by ViAqua Therapeutics for the prevention of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) in farmed shrimp. The product utilizes RNA interference (RNAi) technology, specifically encapsulated double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) particles that are incorporated into shrimp feed. These RNA molecules are designed to silence essential viral genes of WSSV, triggering an innate anti-viral response within the shrimp's cells to suppress viral replication. As shrimp lack an adaptive immune system, traditional vaccination is ineffective; this feed-based RNAi approach provides a scalable solution to address WSSV, which causes significant global economic losses in the aquaculture industry. The product is being commercialized in partnership with Skretting, a Nutreco company.
