VibeX Rapid is a CE‑marked, accelerated corneal cross‑linking riboflavin solution used topically on the de-epithelialized cornea in combination with UVA irradiation (typically via the KXL system) to strengthen corneal collagen in patients with progressive keratoconus or corneal ectasia following refractive surgery.[1][4][6] It is a 0.1% riboflavin (vitamin B2 or riboflavin‑5‑phosphate) ophthalmic formulation in saline with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and no dextran, designed to enhance diffusion into the corneal stroma, reduce procedure soak time, and limit corneal thinning during epithelium‑off cross‑linking.[1][5][6] As a photosensitizer, riboflavin absorbs UVA light and generates reactive oxygen species that induce covalent cross‑links between stromal collagen fibers, increasing corneal biomechanical stability and helping to halt ectatic progression rather than directly improving vision.
