Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VMJ710 (Vibrio phage VMJ710) is a lytic bacteriophage belonging to the class Caudoviricetes, phylogenetically closest to Vibrio phage ICP1_2012. It was isolated from community sewage water in Chandigarh, India, during a cholera outbreak in 2015. VMJ710 is being developed by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for the prevention and treatment of cholera caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) Vibrio cholerae O1 strains. The phage exhibits broad thermal and pH stability, strong anti-biofilm activity, and rapid bactericidal kinetics without inducing resistance. In vivo studies in infant mouse models have demonstrated significant prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy in reducing intestinal bacterial loads.
