Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Vicadrostat + empagliflozin** is an investigational oral combination therapy consisting of vicadrostat, a selective small molecule aldosterone synthase inhibitor (ASi), and empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. Vicadrostat acts by inhibiting aldosterone synthase, reducing aldosterone levels, proteinuria, and blood pressure without affecting cortisol synthesis. Empagliflozin blocks SGLT2 in the kidney, reducing renal glucose reabsorption, causing glycosuria, diuresis, and lowering cardiovascular risk. Together, the combination is being studied to address cardiorenal protection—especially in chronic kidney disease (CKD), chronic heart failure, and patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and high cardiovascular risk. Clinical trials are currently assessing whether this combination provides superior efficacy over standard regimens in reducing albuminuria, blood pressure, and cardiovascular events, while minimizing risks like hyperkalemia[1][2][3][5][6][7].
