Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vicks is a brand of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, encompassing products such as inhalers, throat drops, and cough syrups. The brand's products were historically marketed globally (outside North America) through PGT Healthcare, a joint venture established in 2011 between Procter & Gamble and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries. This venture aimed to leverage Procter & Gamble's brand-building and marketing capabilities with Teva's manufacturing and distribution expertise to accelerate growth in the global consumer healthcare market. As part of the arrangement, Teva also became the sole manufacturer for the joint venture and for Procter & Gamble's North American OTC business, including investing in a manufacturing plant in Sanand, India, for Vicks products. The PGT Healthcare joint venture was mutually terminated on July 1, 2018, due to diverging strategic priorities, allowing both companies to reclaim their contributed assets and pursue independent OTC strategies.
