Vicks NyQuil

Vicks NyQuil is an over-the-counter combination medication developed by Procter & Gamble for the nighttime relief of common cold and influenza symptoms. It contains three active small molecule ingredients: acetaminophen, a pain reliever and fever reducer that inhibits cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2); dextromethorphan, an antitussive that acts as an agonist at sigma-1 receptors and an antagonist at NMDA receptors; and doxylamine succinate, a first-generation antihistamine that antagonizes histamine H1 receptors. The inclusion of doxylamine provides a sedating effect, making the formulation suitable for use before sleep to alleviate symptoms such as cough, sore throat, headache, minor aches, fever, runny nose, and sneezing.
