Overview
Vidarabine monophosphate is a small molecule nucleoside analog antiviral agent developed and marketed by Kaifeng Pharma (Kaifeng Mingren Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.). It is the monophosphate derivative of vidarabine (adenine arabinoside), designed to provide significantly improved water solubility compared to the parent compound, which facilitates its administration as an injection. The drug acts as a prodrug that is intracellularly converted into its active triphosphate form. Once activated, it competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase, thereby interfering with viral DNA synthesis and replication. In China, it is approved and marketed as a freeze-dried powder for injection for the treatment of various herpes virus infections, including herpes simplex encephalitis, cutaneous and mucosal herpes, and varicella-zoster virus infections.
