Overview

VIEKVIN is an equine-derived antivenom consisting of F(ab')2 antibody fragments, developed and manufactured by the Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera "Torlak" in Belgrade, Serbia. It is produced by immunizing horses with the freeze-dried venom of the long-nosed viper (*Vipera ammodytes*). The product is indicated for the treatment of envenomation following bites from venomous snakes of the *Vipera* genus, specifically *Vipera ammodytes* and *Vipera berus* (common European adder). It functions by neutralizing the toxic components of the venom, thereby providing passive immunity to the patient. Administration is typically via intramuscular or intravenous injection, with the latter reserved for severe cases of poisoning.
