Overview

Vigil + bevacizumab is a combination investigational cancer therapy consisting of Vigil (gemogenovatucel-T), an autologous tumor cell immunotherapy, and bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGFA). Vigil is created from a patient’s own tumor cells genetically modified to express granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GMCSF) and suppress the immune-inhibitory transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β1 and TGF-β2) via shRNA interference. The aim is to prime the patient's immune system against cancer antigens and enhance effector T cell responses. Bevacizumab functions by blocking tumor angiogenesis and, indirectly, may also foster a more immune-active tumor microenvironment by reducing immune suppression mediated by VEGF. This combination is under investigation for synergistic efficacy, especially in ovarian cancer and other advanced solid tumors.
