Overview
The Vigoo enterovirus 71 (EV71) vaccine is an inactivated whole-virus vaccine developed by Beijing Vigoo Biological, a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group (CNBG) and Sinopharm. It is indicated for the prevention of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) caused by enterovirus 71 infection in infants and young children aged 6 to 35 months. The vaccine is produced using the FY71N strain (genotype C4) of the virus, which is grown in Vero cells and subsequently inactivated with formaldehyde. Administered as a two-dose intramuscular regimen, the vaccine induces high titers of neutralizing antibodies, providing sustained protection (over 90% efficacy) against EV71-associated HFMD and severe neurological complications. It was one of the first EV71 vaccines to receive regulatory approval in China.
