Vikair

Vikair is a multi-component combination drug widely used in Russia and other CIS countries for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including peptic ulcers and hyperacid gastritis. The formulation consists of bismuth subnitrate, magnesium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, calamus rhizome powder, and frangula bark powder. Bismuth subnitrate acts as a gastroprotective agent by forming a protein-bismuth complex that coats ulcerated tissue and exhibits antimicrobial activity against *Helicobacter pylori*. The magnesium and sodium salts serve as antacids to neutralize gastric hydrochloric acid, while the herbal components provide mild antispasmodic and laxative properties to counteract the constipating effects of bismuth and magnesium. It is typically administered orally as a tablet.
