Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Viking Therapeutics is developing a series of internally developed small molecule dual amylin and calcitonin receptor agonists (DACRAs) for the treatment of obesity and other metabolic disorders. These compounds act as dual agonists targeting both the amylin and calcitonin receptors, which play critical roles in regulating food intake and metabolic control. In preclinical studies, these DACRAs demonstrated significant body weight reductions in lean rats and diet-induced obese mice, as well as improvements in metabolic markers such as blood glucose. The program is currently in the IND-enabling phase, with an Investigational New Drug (IND) application filing expected in the first quarter of 2026.
