Overview
Vilanterol trifenatate is a selective long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) used as a bronchodilator for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It is typically administered via oral inhalation in combination with other agents such as corticosteroids or muscarinic antagonists. Its mechanism of action involves stimulation of intracellular adenylyl cyclase, increasing cyclic AMP levels and resulting in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and inhibition of hypersensitivity mediator release from mast cells. Vilanterol exhibits high selectivity for the beta2 adrenergic receptor, rapid onset, and prolonged duration of action suitable for once-daily dosing[2][5].
