VILAPIL-M

VILAPIL-M is a fixed-dose combination oral antidiabetic medication developed and marketed by Cadell Healthcare for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide. Vildagliptin works by blocking the DPP-4 enzyme, which prevents the breakdown of incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP, thereby increasing insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. These metabolic effects of metformin are mediated in part through the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). The combination provides complementary mechanisms of action to control blood sugar levels in patients who are inadequately controlled with diet, exercise, or monotherapy.
