vilazodone

Vilazodone is an oral antidepressant approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. It is classified as a serotonin modulator and acts as both a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and a partial agonist at the serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine 1A (5HT1A) receptor. By inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and partially stimulating the 5HT1A receptor, vilazodone increases serotonergic activity in the central nervous system, which is associated with its antidepressant effects. Vilazodone was first approved by the FDA in January 2011[7][10]. It may be associated with less sexual dysfunction and weight gain compared to some other antidepressants[7].
