Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vildanef is a branded generic formulation of vildagliptin, an oral anti-diabetic medication belonging to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class. Marketed by Lloyd Healthcare in India, it is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which normally degrades incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preventing this degradation, Vildanef increases the circulating levels of these hormones, thereby stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and reducing glucagon secretion from alpha cells in a glucose-dependent manner.
