Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vilvadi Gulika (also known as Vilvadi Gudika) is a traditional polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation manufactured by Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala. It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of infectious fevers, toxic conditions (such as insect and snake bites), and various digestive ailments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the formulation was utilized for its potential immune-enhancing and anti-viral properties. Research conducted at the Centre for Medicinal Plants Research (CMPR) of Arya Vaidya Sala identified phytochemical constituents within the formulation that exhibit inhibitory activity against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. As a traditional Ayurvedic medicine, it functions through a holistic approach to immune support and detoxification rather than a single defined molecular mechanism. The formulation is administered orally in tablet form and is recognized in the U.S. National Institutes of Health's Public Health Emergency collections.
