ViMREX's lead candidate is a topical small molecule epigenetic demethylating agent designed to treat HPV-induced precancerous lesions. It works by demethylating hypermethylated DNA regions in HPV-infected cells, which subsequently down-regulates the expression of HPV oncoproteins E6 and E7. This mechanism aims to reverse the oncogenic process in lesions such as Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia (VIN), Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN), Anal Intraepithelial Neoplasia (AIN), and Vaginal Intraepithelial Neoplasia (VaIN). The topical formulation allows for local application, potentially offering a non-surgical alternative for patients and avoiding side effects associated with laser or surgical therapy. The drug is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (DelVIN-Studie) for VIN Grade 2/3, while other indications remain in preclinical development.
