vinblastine

Vinblastine is a vinca alkaloid antineoplastic agent isolated from the periwinkle plant (Catharanthus roseus). It works by binding to tubulin, thereby inhibiting the assembly of microtubules and disrupting the mitotic spindle formation. This leads to M phase-specific cell cycle arrest and eventual cell death. At low concentrations, it suppresses microtubule dynamics, while at higher concentrations, it reduces microtubule polymer mass. Vinblastine is used to treat various cancers including Hodgkin's lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, breast cancer, testicular cancer, bladder cancer, and other conditions like histiocytosis and Kaposi's sarcoma.
