Overview

Vincristine is a naturally occurring vinca alkaloid and antineoplastic agent used primarily in the treatment of various cancers. It acts as an antimicrotubule agent by binding to tubulin and inhibiting microtubule formation, thereby arresting cell division at metaphase and leading to cell death. Vincristine is considered cell cycle phase-specific for the M phase and S phase. It is most commonly used in combination chemotherapy regimens for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Wilms tumor, neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, choriocarcinoma, Ewing's sarcoma, gestational trophoblastic tumors, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), multiple myeloma (in some cases), Kaposi's sarcoma related to AIDS, certain brain tumors and lung cancers. Vincristine also has immunosuppressive effects[1][2][4][9].
