Overview

VLAM is a multi-agent chemotherapy rescue protocol primarily utilized in veterinary oncology for the treatment of relapsed or refractory canine lymphoma. The regimen consists of vincristine (a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation), lomustine (an alkylating nitrosourea that crosses the blood-brain barrier), adriamycin (doxorubicin, an anthracycline that intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II), and methylprednisolone (a corticosteroid with lympholytic properties). This combination is designed to overcome multi-drug resistance by utilizing agents with distinct mechanisms of action and non-overlapping toxicities, aiming to re-induce remission in patients who have failed standard first-line CHOP-based therapies. The 'A' in the acronym refers to Adriamycin, a common brand name for doxorubicin.
