Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vincristine + prednisone is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of the vinca alkaloid vincristine and the corticosteroid prednisone. This combination is used primarily as induction or maintenance therapy in various hematologic malignancies such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and multiple myeloma. Vincristine acts by inhibiting microtubule formation in mitotic cells, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Prednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid that induces apoptosis in certain cancerous lymphoid cells and exerts anti-inflammatory effects. The combination has been shown to induce remission with relatively low toxicity compared to multi-agent regimens[1][2].
