Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vincristine sulfate liposomal is a liposome-encapsulated formulation of vincristine, an antineoplastic vinca alkaloid. It is designed to improve pharmacokinetics, tissue targeting, and allow for higher dosage administration than conventional vincristine, thereby reducing systemic neurotoxicity. The liposomes are composed of sphingomyelin and cholesterol, resulting in greater rigidity and slower systemic release, which enhances penetration into organs and bone marrow. Vincristine acts by binding to tubulin, inhibiting microtubule polymerization, causing cell cycle arrest in metaphase, and disrupting mitosis. This formulation is approved for the treatment of adults with Philadelphia chromosome-negative acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in second or greater relapse or following two or more prior anti-leukemia therapies[1][4][5][7].
