Overview

Vinflunine is a semisynthetic, fluorinated **vinca alkaloid** cytotoxic chemotherapy agent developed by Pierre Fabre. It binds tubulin at the vinca-alkaloid binding region, suppresses microtubule dynamics and microtubule assembly, disrupts mitotic-spindle function, and thereby causes cell-cycle arrest and cancer-cell death. It is marketed in the European Union as Javlor for monotherapy of adults with advanced or metastatic transitional-cell carcinoma of the urothelial tract after failure of a platinum-containing regimen. The principal dose-limiting toxicities are myelosuppression, especially neutropenia, and gastrointestinal toxicity including constipation.
