Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vinomol is a fixed-dose combination oral syrup developed and marketed by Stadchem for the treatment of unproductive cough, bronchitis, cough associated with respiratory tract infections, rhinitis, and smoker's cough. The formulation contains three active pharmaceutical ingredients: dextromethorphan hydrobromide, phenylephrine hydrochloride, and cetirizine. Dextromethorphan is a centrally acting cough suppressant that acts as a sigma-1 receptor agonist and NMDA receptor antagonist to elevate the cough threshold in the brainstem. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a decongestant by inducing vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing swelling and congestion. Cetirizine is a second-generation, selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist that alleviates allergic symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and pruritus without causing significant sedation.
