Vinorelbine + platinum refers to a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of the vinca alkaloid vinorelbine and a platinum-based agent (most commonly cisplatin or carboplatin). Vinorelbine inhibits microtubule assembly by binding to tubulin, thereby disrupting mitosis and inducing cell death. Platinum agents such as cisplatin or carboplatin form DNA crosslinks that inhibit DNA replication and transcription, leading to apoptosis. This combination is used primarily in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and has also been studied in metastatic breast cancer (especially triple-negative subtypes) and advanced ovarian cancer. The regimen is often considered for patients who have previously received anthracyclines and taxanes[1][3][5][6]. Clinical studies indicate that this combination can be effective as salvage therapy with manageable toxicity profiles; common adverse effects include neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, nausea/vomiting, and fatigue[1][5]. Molecular analyses suggest downregulation of MAPK pathway genes following treatment[3][6].
