Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Viola odorata L. oily extract is a traditional Persian medicine formulation prepared by macerating the flowers of *Viola odorata* (sweet violet) in a base oil, typically almond or sesame oil. Administered intranasally as nasal drops, it is used to treat dry eye disease and insomnia. The extract contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including melatonin, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and salicylic acid. In clinical studies for dry eye syndrome, the intranasal application has been shown to improve tear film stability and increase tear production, likely through systemic absorption of its phytochemical constituents or neuro-reflexive pathways.
